So when I'm trying to figure out which critics to read and which to trust, I tend to look for two things. One, how big is their expense account. You've gotta eat in a lot of restaurants, a lot of times, to really get the perspective you need to file proper reviews. The guys at the Times, Frank Bruni at the Chronicle, Michael Bower, Jonathon Gold out in LA. They're eating out a lot They have a lot of meals, they have a lot of dishes, and a lot of food. And that, to me, is a reason to trust their take.
