F&W’s Justin Chapple reveals how to make a bacon weave for the best-ever BLT.
I'm Justin Chapel from Food and Wines test kitchen, join me as I demonstrate mad genius tips. [MUSIC] One of the most, Famous sandwiches in the US is the BLT, but I have a bone to pick with it. You don't get bacon in every bite, or the bacon falls out. But I have a mad genius tip that's gonna solve the problem. So you're gonna start with your sliced bacon, and with a sharp knife Cut it in half crosswise, transfer it to a plate, then take a large rinsed baking sheet and line it with either parchment paper or foil, and now comes the best part. We're gonna make a weave out of bacon. Start with one half slice of bacon and with another slice of bacon Lay it parallel to the first one. You're gonna do that one more time with the third half slice of bacon. Fold up the center piece of bacon, because you're gonna take another slice and you're gonna lay it across the two that remain flat on the baking sheet. And then fold over the center piece. Then take the outer slices of bacon and fold them over the piece that you just laid down, and you're gonna continue the layering until you've completed Your entire weave. I'm just folding my bacon, folks. Simple as that. Just like that. It looks like a quilt. I have another trick to keep the bacon nice and flat when it's baking. I take a baking rack, and you're gonna invert it, and lay it on top of the bacon. We're going to pop this bacon in a 400 degree oven for about 20 minutes. Oh. Look at that. Take off the rack. Careful, it's hot. And after it's drained on paper towels, you have this incredible, beautiful, brown and crispy bacon leaf. I could probably eat it just like this, but I'm going to make the the BLT. My goodness, we have bacon everywhere. That's exactly what we want. I'm gonna get bacon in every single bite of this sandwich, thanks to my mad genius tip. [MUSIC] [BLANK_AUDIO]
