I haven’t spent nearly enough time at Brooklyn’s Prime Meats, the new German restaurant that channels old-school taverns, from the excellent Frankies Spuntino boys, Frank Falcinelli and Frank Castronovo. I can’t feel too bad though, because the place isn’t actually in full force—yet. That’s all changing since the gas got turned on May 19. By next week, the Franks expect to be serving items like chops and steaks (there's also talk of a burger though details remain sketchy). Still, even without gas, Prime Meats has managed to turn out some very impressive dishes, like red wine–braised beef sauerbraten with outrageous pretzel dumplings; they also offer salt-flecked homemade pretzels separately and with their tasting board of cured meats like hunter sausage. And even without gas, the Prime Meat boys have managed to host some impressive parties—a few weeks ago, the Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson threw a party at Frankie’s Spuntino next door before he goes off on tour in Europe. Guests included Geoffrey Rush, Ed Norton, ' and one of the Olsen twins (like the Prime Meats' burger, details of which Olsen it was are sketchy).
