Københavns Hovedbanegård / Copenhagen Central Station
Though it’s busy, crowded and noisy, there’s something special about Copenhagen’s Central Station. The big clock in the middle of the train station is a well-known meeting point.

Søerne / The Lakes
A walk around the lakes takes you from one neighborhood to another. On your walk, you’ll pass by families feeding ducks, lots of joggers, friends chatting over a coffee to-go and people walking their dogs.

Torvehallerne
This is a wonderful food market/food court in two large glass buildings. It’s an impressive place with a lovely atmosphere and all kinds of foods, drinks, flowers, you name it. Great for cold and rainy days, too. www.torvehallernekbh.dk

Smørrebrød
In Danish these are called smørrebrød. You might known them as open-faced sandwiches. Here, they’re made with rye bread and different variations of cold cuts, cheese spreads or other toppings. Copenhageners eat them for lunch, dinner or even breakfast. Try it!

Fish Trucks
Danes and herring might be two things associated with each other, and yes, we do like fish. On street corners in Copenhagen, you’ll find fish trucks filled to the brim with fresh fish.

Grød
This little spot in Nørrebro, serves porridge and risotto in many variations and with a variety of toppings. Delicious! Their goal is to show the world how porridge can be delicate, healthy and cheap. It’s a very popular spot. www.groed.com

Assistens Kirkegård
A beautiful old churchyard. This is a lovely, quiet and green spot in the middle of the busy Nørrebro area. Bring your coffee and take a walk through this peaceful spot.

Elmegade, Nørrebro
Nørrebro is a working-class area and also a very multicultural neighborhood. It used to be a place where the anarchistic, radical young people hung out (some still do). Nørrebro houses hipsters, students and young families. Elmegade is great for small, interesting shops, cafés and bars.

Enghave Plads
Vesterbro is an old working-class area that has been partly renovated and is now a very hip neighborhood where students, young families, hipsters and creative people live. It’s an area that has a lot to offer, with cool cafes, restaurants, bars and small trendy shops.

Architecture-wise, Ørestad is a modern part of CPH. If you like experimental, graphic, sleek architecture, you should visit this area. Hop on the metro and you will be there in no time.

Many Copenhageners swear by organic food. Stop by one of Copenhagen’s many greengrocers and try the organic vegetables that are in season.

HAY House
Interior design and furniture for those who love the modern, simple, Scandinavian style. The store also has a wonderful view over Strøget—the long pedestrian and shopping street. www.hay.dk

Nyhavn
The waterfront/canal area, right by Kongens Nytorv, which used to be notorious for beer, prostitutes and sailors. There’s a certain atmosphere in Nyhavn that you won’t find anywhere else in CPH. Enjoy the old and pretty colored houses (No. 9 is the oldest one). If the weather allows it, have a beer by the canal.
