A walk around the lakes takes you from one neighborhood to another. On your walk, you’ll pass by families feeding ducks, lots of joggers, friends chatting over a coffee to-go and people walking their dogs.

In Danish these are called smørrebrød. You might known them as open-faced sandwiches. Here, they’re made with rye bread and different variations of cold cuts, cheese spreads or other toppings. Copenhageners eat them for lunch, dinner or even breakfast. Try it!

Nørrebro is a working-class area and also a very multicultural neighborhood. It used to be a place where the anarchistic, radical young people hung out (some still do). Nørrebro houses hipsters, students and young families. Elmegade is great for small, interesting shops, cafés and bars.

Vesterbro is an old working-class area that has been partly renovated and is now a very hip neighborhood where students, young families, hipsters and creative people live. It’s an area that has a lot to offer, with cool cafes, restaurants, bars and small trendy shops.

The waterfront/canal area, right by Kongens Nytorv, which used to be notorious for beer, prostitutes and sailors. There’s a certain atmosphere in Nyhavn that you won’t find anywhere else in CPH. Enjoy the old and pretty colored houses (No. 9 is the oldest one). If the weather allows it, have a beer by the canal.
