Dock Kitchen; London

In-Store Restaurants: Dock Kitchen
Credit: Photo courtesy of Tom Dixon

In a converted Victorian industrial building overlooking West London's Grand Union Canal, Dock Kitchen sits directly above Tom Dixon, a home design shop known for its cutting-edge light fixtures—like a tripod of illuminated disco balls. A raw aesthetic complements chef Stevie Parle's fly-by-the-seat-of-his-pants cooking style, which is inspired by fleeting ingredients and recent trips. The lamb biryani, for example, is cooked in a traditional clay pot from Tamil Nadu, a state Parle visits in India. dockkitchen.co.uk

Umami at Fred Segal; Santa Monica, CA

In-Store Restaurants: Umami at Fred Segal
Credit: Photo courtesy of Umami Restaurant Group

An iconic Southern California clothing shop that stocks designers-on-the-rise such as Jacob Holston and Ripley Rader, Fred Segal's Santa Monica mini mall (it offers leased space to outside vendors, too) also houses a location of the L.A.-based cult chain Umami Burger. Famous for giving each of its restaurants its own special sandwich, this outpost's menu boasts the oxtail burger. Braised in slightly chocolaty stout beer, the oxtail tops an already delicious burger featuring Umami's juicy steak-blend patty, house truffle cheese and garlic aioli. umami.com

Maison Ikkoku; Singapore

In-Store Restaurants: Maison Ikkoku
Credit: Photo courtesy of Maison Ikkoku

Since opening in 2011, this has become one of the highest-regarded menswear boutiques in Singapore. On-trend selections range from Deluxe madras shirts to Industry of All Nations lace-up espadrilles. But the clothing takes up only the second of three floors. On the top floor, a semi-alfresco bar offers similarly edgy cocktails. For the downstairs café, the baristas trained with Japanese latte artist Hiroshi Sawada. Weekends, locals congregate for the inventive brunch menu that includes eggs Benedict with an unexpectedly spicy Hollandaise, and an egg-salad sandwich with a wasabi kick. maison-ikkoku.net

Sfäär; Tallinn, Estonia

In-Store Restaurants: Sfäär
Credit: Photo courtesy of Sfäär

Its shopping half is known for contemporary-cool clothing, accessories and home items with international pedigrees: American-made Barbour jackets are stocked with Comme des Garçons fragrances. The bright (thanks to the white-painted limestone walls and large windows) dining room focuses more tightly on made-in-Estonia ingredients. Exceptionally popular is the barely spicy beef tartare, made with organic, grass-fed beef from the small island of Saaremaa. sfaar.ee

Graanmarkt 13; Antwerp, Belgium

In-Store Restaurants: Graanmarkt 13
Credit: Photo © Frederik Vercruysse

This airy Belgian shop's website describes the store as a "home where everything is for sale." The proprietors even live upstairs. Along with prized homewares like handmade Nymphenburg porcelain from Munich, clothing is offered from indie darlings such as Isabel Marant. The intimate ground floor dining room offers a seasonal menu of unfussy dishes, including sea bass in a tomato broth with artichoke and asparagus, the latter two sourced from the rooftop garden. graanmarkt13.be

Number One; Dallas

In-Store Restaurants: Number One
Credit: Photo courtesy of Number One

Opened in 2012, the eco-friendly Highland Park shop has won a following for eclectic, earth-friendly selections like repurposed-army-tent Greg Lauren dresses, Heath Ceramics dinnerware and vintage-y table linens from the French brand Côte Bastidé. Its organic café serves gluten-free and Paleo options, and it's the exclusive Dallas source for Blue Bottle coffee from San Francisco. But some of the biggest sellers are the cold-pressed juices from local startup Vim + Vigor. The current favorite: Juice No. 1, an invigorating mix of kale juice, spinach and other greens, sweetened with apple and zippy with lemon. numberonehp.com

Star Provisions; Atlanta

In-Store Restaurants: Star Provisions

Chef Anne Quatrano's 4,000-square-foot food hall celebrates local meats, cheeses and produce from Georgia and across the Southeast. It even sells vegetables from Quatrano's own Summerland Farm in nearby Cartersville. What's even less well known is that what the website describes as the "culinary dream shop" also stocks beautiful homewares, like stellar ceramics from the California-based designer Alex Marshall, and leather aprons and roomy satchels by Travaux en Cours. starprovisions.com

Secret Location; Vancouver

In-Store Restaurants: Secret Location

This Gaslight-district clothing store and restaurant opened in 2012, promising equally inventive cooking and clothes. The upstairs sales floor champions lesser-known designers like Olympia Le-Tan, David Koma and Cinzia Araia. The downstairs Tasting Room, under the direction of Fraîche vet Jefferson Alvarez, offers assertive dishes like braised wild boar shank punched up with a citrusy sorrel sauce. secretlocation.ca

Sam's at Louis; Boston

In-Store Restaurants: Sam's at Louis
Credit: Photo courtesy of Sam's at Louis

Bostonians rely on the iconic retailer Louis for upscale designers like Pierre Hardy and Kiton. In 2010 it moved from its original location to a loft-like, glass-walled building overlooking the waterfront. Fans like chef Barbara Lynch adore its stunning new view of the city, and the casual new restaurant, Sam's. The aluminum tables recall diner counters. Chef Asia Mei relies on New England farms for the kitchen. The beef for her braised short ribs comes from Savenor's, a renowned meat market with locations in Boston and Cambridge. samsatlouis.com

At this 90-year-old design mecca, shoppers will find vibrantly printed textiles and sculptural home accessories from the region's most renowned creative types such as pewter designer Jakob Solgren. Shoppers can refuel at the Tea Salon, which was added during the 2011 renovations and now carries a massive selection of teas, from organic options by way of China and Sri Lanka to a variety of house-blended black teas. Light fare includes a refreshing avocado-and-salmon salad featuring Swedish farm finds (jazzed up with a house-made Dijon mustard dressing), as well as Manchego cheese and Serrano ham from Spain. svenskttenn.se

Corso Como; Milan

In-Store Restaurants: Corso Como

Vogue Italia editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani has an equally fashionable sister named Carla. Credit her with opening this 27,000-square-foot institution, which stocks magazine-ready clothing and accessories from some of the biggest names in fashion including Stella McCartney and Jason Wu. There's also a three-room hotel, a roof garden, a bookstore and an art gallery, which recently hosted World Press Photo 2013, a photojournalism contest. The signature restaurant is mostly Italian, with an occasional dish of far-flung origins, like a crowd-pleasing Tandoori chicken or the sushi-inspired ginger-and-wasabi-marinated seared tuna. 10corsocomo.com

Cara & Co; Sydney

In-Store Restaurants: Cara & Co
Credit: Photo courtesy of Cara&Co Restaurant

The Australian offshoot of this popular Moscow-based shop—a destination for bold, attention-getting fashions (an orange Thierry Mugler body-con dress with exaggerated shoulders is an exclusive here)—flies in the Michelin-starred Belgian chef David de Belder a few times a year to develop the kitchen's seasonal menu. In the fall, dishes include the cleverly named Slow Cooked Bull Wins the Race, a Wagyu beef dish that has been cooked sous vide for 20 hours with coriander seeds, white pepper, juniper berries, bay leaf, thyme and rosemary. caraandco.com

Armani/Ristorante; Tokyo

In-Store Restaurants: Armani/Ristorante
Credit: Photo © Armani / Ristorante

This 80,000 square-foot "lifestyle complex" in Ginza houses both the Giorgio Armani and Emporio Armani boutiques, a nightlife lounge called Armani/Prive and the two-floor Italian restaurant Armani/Ristorante. Belying the ritzy setting of lacquered tables and panel screens brushed in gold, the food, which ranges from homemade orecchiette to beetroot-marinated fish carpaccio, from one-time White House chef Enrico Derflingher, is much like Armani clothing: classic, simple Italian. armani-ristorante.jp

Ikram Café; Chicago

In-Store Restaurants: Ikram Café
Credit: Photo courtesy of Ikram

Before Ikram Goldman relocated her shop to a striking, very red East Huron Street location in 2011, her original Rush Street storefront was the go-to destination for high-profile shoppers—Michelle Obama is a longtime client—looking for rare-to-Chicago designers like Viktor & Rolf and Azzadine Alaïa. The current 13,000-square-foot boutique is four times the original's size and houses an art gallery and a 10-table café that serves Mediterranean-inspired farm-to-table dishes by chef Christopher Sullivan. The lunchtime crowd is particularly fond of the fresh greens on the menu, which are sourced from Chicago farmers' markets and nearby suppliers. Among the most popular are the crispy oven-roasted kale chips appetizer and the 5 Salad, a single plate containing five different kinds of salads. ikram.com

Bayit BaNamal at Comme Il Faut; Tel Aviv

In-Store Restaurants: Bayit BaNamal at Comme Il Faut
Credit: Photo courtesy of Comme Il Faut

This shopping complex breathed new life into Tel Aviv's port area when it opened way back in 2006. Comme Il Faut's fashion boutique is a mine for the in-house label's locally produced swingy dresses, tailored blouses and abstract-print silk scarves. It also houses Coola, the country's first ladies-only erotica store. And its breezy, open-to-the-boardwalk restaurant (which opened in 2010) is perfect for people watching while dining on fresh seafood and veggies culled from the nearby farmers' market, including the light drum fish–and-shrimp dish served with a cauliflower puree. comme-il-faut.com
