The U.S. City With the Cleanest Hotel Rooms Might Surprise You
New York City may be a grimy city full of bacteria, cardboard pizza boxes and rats — but, if you’re visiting, you should probably be thankful for it.
According to a new survey from AAA, New York has the highest amount of clean hotel rooms of any city in the country.
And this statistic isn’t even directly related with the quantity of rooms in the city. Las Vegas has the most hotel rooms of any city in America and is not on the top 10 of AAA’s list. (Chicago and Orlando also have more.)
The organization linked the top 10 American cities with the most hotels who reached AAA’s “Best of Housekeeping” inspection results. New York had 161 hotels who met this high standard. The next runner up was Houston, but the city only had 90 hotels that met the same ranking.
In order to reach this ranking, hotels much reach a “very high standard” as inspectors look for evidence of dirt, dust, pests and equipment performance. They must be deemed exceptional for two years running. Only 23 percent of AAA’s ranked hotels reach this level.
“AAA has found that cleanliness and physical condition are consistently among the most important components travelers consider when looking for a hotel,” Michael Petrone, AAA’s director of inspections and diamond ratings, said in a statement. “The vast majority of AAA Inspected & Approved hotels fall in the midscale, Three Diamond range, so those that earn the Inspector’s Best Of Housekeeping badge are a step above in a way that matters to today’s discerning traveler.”
