5 Fast Food Restaurants That Are Vegetarian Friendly
If you're thinking about adopting a vegetarian lifestyle, but are worried about never having options when you eat out, these five fast food joints may be the solution.
It’s the new year, which means everyone is trying out new diets and workout plans. One way people are attempting to be healthier and environmentally conscious is by ditching animal products and byproducts. Vegetarian and vegan diets are nothing new but are becoming much more accessible and easier to do. They’re also in line with the top diet of 2019, the Mediterranean diet, which is heavily plant-based.
With the help of restaurants providing vegetarian alternatives to their traditional foods, it’s making it possible for vegetarians to eat out—and have options when they do. Fast food restaurants like Carl’s Jr., where they just announced their new plant-based ‘Beyond Burger’ is one example of the trend to accommodate vegetarians, and they’re not the only ones. Check out these five fast food restaurants that have some tasty meat-less meals.
Burger King may also be the king of veggie burgers. The fast food chain has had the MorningStar brand veggie burger on their menu for quite some time, and as a well-known (and well-loved) brand of veggie burgers it's a definite hit among vegetarians. And unlike McDonald's, who add beef flavoring to the oil their fries are cooked in, Burger King's fries are totally safe for vegetarians to eat.
Chipotle has a few tasty options for vegetarians, including their Sofritas, which is seasoned tofu, and fajita veggies. One of the perks of ordering all veggies on your burrito or burrito bowl is that guac is, for once, not extra. Chipotle's black and pinto beans are also vegetarian friendly, unlike some that contain animal lard.
The Veggie Delite sandwich is a super simple vegetarian option that Subway provides, and now with the newer addition of wraps to the menu, you can get a veggie-packed wrap. What's nice about this option is the amount of vegetables you can get, and the wide variety of them as well. Also, if you leave off the cheese (and certain dressings), it's easily made vegan.
At Wendy's vegetarians can get a big baked potato loaded with broccoli and melted cheese. This meal is made vegan simply by removing the hot cheese and just sticking to the broccoli. Wendy's is one of the few fast food chains that even offers baked potatoes, so it's a nice change of pace from the same old french fries.

Taco Bell may be the most impressive when it comes to a fast food joint having vegetarian options. They have an entire vegetarian menu with 13 meat-less meals, and in addition, you can substitute meat in almost any meal for beans and potatoes (or both) instead. The options are basically endless, and like Chipotle, their beans are lard-free.
