Guess What Iconic Disney Ride is Closing For Good In August
It's making room for an awesome new ode to Mickey and Minnie!
Raise your hand if you’ve planned an entire Disney vacation over one single ride. *Guilty.* (Dumbo The Flying Elephant, we're looking at you.) Now, fans of the Great Movie Ride better book it to Orlando, Florida before it closes for good. The beloved ride, which has been around since the park first opened in 1989 will be shuttered for good on August 13th. A cherished part of our childhood memories, the Great Movie Ride began with the iconic entrance of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and took you on a whirlwind tour of MGM history with famous movie cameos ranging from from The Public Enemy to Raiders of the Lost Ark in an 18-minute adventure that stuck with viewers long after the ride concluded.
The silver-lining? In its place Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway will land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Despite the iconic duo showing their adorable cartoon heads around the park, this is the first-ever ride-through-attraction built entirely around Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Grab your mouse ears!
"Our most classic of our classic characters, Mickey and Minnie, are getting their own state-of-the-art major family attraction with a new story and singable and lovable theme song," Kevin Rafferty, the Imagineer behind the attraction shared at the D23 Expo 2017 this weekend. "And that song is already stuck in my head!"
Currently, the opening date for Mickey and Minnie Runaway Railway ride is yet-to-be revealed. Watch the announcement below.
