Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir Have Amazing Advice for Your Olympics Party
Let the former Olympic figure skaters coach you to success.
For an Olympics viewing party guaranteed to impress even the toughest judges, NBC commentators and former Olympic figure skaters Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir are here to coach you to success.
After packing many suitcases for their trip to South Korea (“Can you even imagine the stress of packing all of our clothes?!” says Weir), the snappily-dressed duo put their heads together to come up with tips for throwing the slickest Winter Olympics viewing party during the PyeongChang games. So, check out the games schedule and these tips, then invite your friends for a gold-medal worthy event.
Get Things Poppin’
Lipinski suggests filling ice cream cones with popcorn to resemble Olympic torches, serving donuts iced the colors of the Olympic rings, and red white and blue tortilla chips to show support for team U.S.A. “It’s clear Tara’s more of an entertainer than me,” says Weir. “I like to sit in a dark room and watch television alone.”
Pay homage to your favorite Olympians by dressing like them. “Skating is when you really get to be glamorous,” Weir says, “so get out the crystals, fur, and glitter!” You don’t have to tell us twice.
Be Part of the Action
“There should be a competition of some sort where you can drink!” declares Weir. The double act suggests making a signature cocktail that’s ice-based (of course!) and naming it after your favorite figure skating jump. “Then you can place bets over how many times I’ll say ‘triple-triple’ or Johnny will say ‘glorious,’” Lipinski quips about the duo’s go-to phrases. “And make your friends take a drink every time we say them.” Game on!
NBC networks (NBC, NBCSN, USA, and CNBC) will be broadcasting all Olympic coverage, live and pre-recorded (PyeongChang is 14 hours ahead of EST), over the next couple of weeks.
