Charleston’s Red Clay Hot Sauce Is Releasing 5 New Blends to Spice Up the Season
When compared to the likes of Tabasco (founded in 1868) and Crystal (introduced in 1923), Charleston, South Carolina’s Red Clay Hot Sauce is a relative newcomer to the spicy scene, launched just six years ago. Even so, the brand’s addictive, handcrafted condiments wasted no time earning permanent spots in our pantries: We’ll dash the Original on our oysters, splash the Verde on our eggs, and squeeze the Hot Honey on just about everything else. And now, because the Red Clay team knew we desperately needed to end 2020 on a high (hot?) note, they’re launching five new spice blends destined to become mealtime staples.
Starting December 19, Red Clay is releasing a series of five blends made with the leftover pepper mash from their hot sauces, delicious evidence of the team’s commitment to sustainable practices.
The fiery festivities kick off with an Everything Spice Salt (yes, like the one you love on your bagels, but with a peppery punch) released on December 19, then continue with four additional blend debuts, with one launch happening per day through December 23. Think the 12 days of Christmas, but make it spicy…and 7 days shorter.
December 20 brings a Spicy Margarita Salt for zipping up homemade cocktails and fish tacos with a citrusy twist. That’s followed by Charleston Bay Spice for Old Bay devotees craving a Lowcountry twang for their seafood boils and Spicy Blood Mary Salt for brunch fiends looking to up the ante on their A.M. cocktail. Finally, on December 23, they’ll launch the last of the five blends, a sweet and Spicy Red Mash inspired by Georgia barbecue that’s made with sumac and ideal for grilled vegetables.
Each of the blends retail for $18 and are available for purchase on redclayhotsauce.com. While you won’t be able to get Red Clay’s latest shipped in time for the holidays, we sure wouldn’t mind finding an IOU for one of the blends in our stockings this Christmas: An edible gift from a favorite Southern maker is always in good taste.
