As if We Weren't Doing It Anyway, Eating Macaroni and Cheese for Breakfast Is Now Acceptable, Kraft Says
After all, it's 2020, and what is time anyway?
Cheesy macaroni for breakfast? Don't act like you've never done it.
Perhaps it was leftovers from dinner, cold and clammy, and the best thing you could spoon up while rushing about your morning. Maybe you made it fresh, because it's just as fast as oatmeal, you told yourself. Or maybe you carry a microwave cup of the fast-cooking pasta with you to work and while others nibble their granola bar, you dig into a big helping of cheesy comfort.
Kraft knows that while macaroni and cheese is a perfect dinner or side dish, it's also good any time of the day — and we do mean any time. That's why they just announced the release of a limited-edition Kraft Mac & Cheese "Breakfast Box."
The iconic blue Kraft boxes are getting a facelift — and you're getting the brand's unwavering support to eat their famous pasta dish for breakfast, or really any time you want. But officially, the word breakfast will now replace dinner. So if you want to feed your kids pasta before 8 a.m., you're in the clear.
"These past few months have been difficult, and even more so for parents with picky eaters who have to find food their kids will eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Luckily everyone, including picky eaters, love Kraft Mac & Cheese," the brand said in a statement provided to Allrecipes. "In fact, 56% of parents have served their kids Mac & Cheese for breakfast more often during COVID-19 times than ever before."
But if you're eager to get your hands on the breakfast boxes, know that you can't find them at your local store just yet. They'll hit shelves sometime in 2021.
Instead, Kraft is giving away a limited supply of the boxes Aug. 4 through Aug. 7 on their Mac & Cheese for Breakfast web site. You can also tweet along with @kraftmacncheese, using #KMCforBreakfast and #Sweepstakes on Twitter, and a reply will be automatically sent with a direct link to see if you are a winner.
The wording on the box isn't the only thing changing. In each box, Kraft is also providing a placemat for kids to color while mom or dad cooks the delicious breakfast.
Think pasta alone isn't enough of a breakfast meal (we disagree, but we're all friends here)? Add some crumbled sausage or bacon to it for a breakfast protein. You could even stir in scrambled eggs.
Also, as part of their mac-and-cheese-for-breakfast campaign, Kraft is donating 10 boxes to global hunger relief organization Feed the Children for every #KMCforBreakfast on Twitter, up to one million boxes.
So even though we've been doing it all along, for ourselves or for our kids, we now have official permission from the beloved mac and cheese brand to happily eat the favored food even before the clock strikes noon. Someone boil some water. We're ready to eat some cheesy macaroni.
