Beverage director Patrick Emerson created this drink for a cocktail competition held by a local vodka company. The Madeira he uses is the Rare Wine Co.'s Charleston Sercial, which was fashioned after the delicate Madeiras that Charlestonians drank in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Add all of the remaining ingredients except the crushed ice and mint sprig. Shake well; strain into a pilsner glass filled with crushed ice. Garnish with the mint sprig.
