Mustard sauce—South Carolina’s go-to sauce for ’cue—gets its signature flavor from from a surprisingly humble ingredient—plain yellow mustard. Bolstered by honey, cider vinegar, and a dash of chile powder, this dressing’s sharp flavor will wake up any salad.
1/4 cup yellow mustard
3 tablespoons grapeseed oil
2 tablespoons honey
1 1/2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon water
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 small garlic clove, finely grated (about 1/4 teaspoon)
1/8 teaspoon chipotle chile powder or cayenne pepper
Kosher salt, to taste
Black pepper, to taste
How to Make It
Whisk together mustard, grapeseed oil, honey, apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon water, Worcestershire, garlic, and chile powder in a medium bowl; season with salt and pepper to taste.
Dressing can be stored in an airtight container in refrigerator up to 5 days.
