I agree with the others about the dough being too wet, however, I thought the overall taste combination was absolutely wonderful. I suffered through the handling of the wet dough and ended up with little gobs rather than biscuit-like topping. The result was dumpling-like. When baked they were tender and biscuit-like. Absolutely delicious and making it again for sure!
The flavors were delicious together. The strawberry filling tasted a bit like jam. My husband liked the addition of almond flour to the dumplings. However, there seems to be an error in the amount of buttermilk. As stated, the dough was too wet. There is no way it can be formed into patties.
The amount of buttermilk stated was way too much. I had to add a lot of extra flour. I would add not more than .5 cup and gradually get to even that amount. I added 2 extra TBS of sugar to the strawberries. The dessert was good but must be eaten the day it was made. It did not hold well for the next day.
This did not come together as expected. Dough was much too wet. Had to keep adding flour to get it to a malleable consistency. Won't try again.
