This didn't work for me. I cooked the caramel at the assigned temp for less than two hours - it was golden in color and tasted wonderful, but it's way too hard. Is there a better estimate of when it's ready - b/c baking for two hours, I guess, was way too long? Tastes wonderful, but can't cut with a fork like a regular pie. :(

Absolute favorite pie recipe. Our family has passed this recipe on as our individual families have grown and we all make it every Thanksgiving. We usually have to make 2-3 because everyone loves it!! Only change I made is I added vanilla extract to the whipped topping to make it a bit sweeter or if I’m in a pinch I use cool whip. Either way, very easy and always amazing!

This pie is delicious and it is so easy to make. You only have seven ingredients. Every time I bring it to a potluck, etc, people rave about it. I feel embarrassed because it is so easy to make. People want the recipe so I usually bring copies along with me. The pie is sweet, even with the whipped cream, so I usually cut smaller pieces than I do with fruit pies. Thank you Carrie for this sumptuous recipe.
I have never had such catastrophic results in making a pie! What a mess!!!
