This recipe was delicious & well-balanced. I expected it to be heavier than it was, somehow. But it was rich & savory but not greasy. And all the white cheddar was subtle enough to blend. I substituted a 12" pan since I don't have a 10" and only difference was that I couldn't have as many layers. The bacon still shrunk back, even with the parchment approach, but we faked it with some extra bacon over the exposed bits. Definitely a project, but great for a late Sunday lunch with family.
This is possibly — with the exception of the much easier Bagna Cauda — the most amazing recipe that I’ve ever read! There’s an inordinate amount of prep and assembly work and then 3 hrs. baking time. But it is so incredibly worth every minute of work. I might accompany it with a spinach salad with apples, dried cranberries, and walnuts, using the bacon drippings as all or part of the salad dressing. It would be spectacular on a holiday table in this holiday season!
