This recipe sounds good and I will have to give it a try. However to be clear, this is NOT an arepa. It is a pupusa. The filling is encapsulated by the dough. Think of an arepa like an English muffin that has been sliced in half partially, or pita bread, and stuffed with a filling. You cannot use Maseca but instead use something like PAN. It's a different consistency. Neither pupusa or arepas are Mexican in origin but Guatemalan/Central American and Venezuelan respectively. Arepas are similar to gorditas which are Mexican which this recipe still is not.
