This pie was horrible! I’ve never heard of baking a chocolate pie in the oven and there is a reason why. The eggs curdled so it’s basically chocolate-flavored scrambled eggs in a pie shell. Stick with the chocolate pie recipes where you cook the filling slowly on the stove top until thick
I made this the other day for Thanksgiving, and I will definitely be adding it to my list of Thanksgiving recipes every year!!! It was delicious and chocolatey and buttery. I think I ate it in four slices
This recipe has completely falsified reviews. This is barely edible. It is too gritty and greasy and the cocoa flavor was way off. The crust was over baked at the time listed. Definitely not the best recipe on the internet and Food and Wine should be embarrassed this is on their site. If this was served at a restaurant, I would definitely send it back.
I made this pie based on all the great reviews and it was a big disappointment. I used the Pillsbury packaged pie crust as suggested. I followed all other instructions exactly as stated. The pie crust on the bottom almost disappeared because it was blind baked with the holes in it and then the pie ingredients were very liquid and soaked the crust. The end result was a pie 3/8 “ thick, way below the top edge of the crust with an almost non existent bottom crust. I used Dutch processed cocoa but the pay was just not very flavorful and tasted like it was lacking something. It was also oily from the butter. I think it was oversold in the description and I would not make it again.
Can I use normal milk instead of evaporated milk?
This is a delicious recipe and is so easy that it is now my go-to recipe for "what can I bring?" occasions! It's always a hit, and always gets a few laughs when I tell them where I got the recipe (after assuring them that it's missing that one iconic ingredient from the movie.
This pie turned out beautifully - rich, dark, and creamy. I piped heavy whipped cream onto the top and finished it off with sprinkled with dark chocolate shavings. It was delicious!!
My Grandchildren love this Chocolate Pie. They ask me to make it every Thanksgiving and Christmas. Their absolute favorite.
i thought it turned out really good, never thought a chocolate pie would taste, i have to say, AMAZING. 10/10
