Sean Hoard developed this cocktail after drinking pastis during a pétanque tournament. In France, pastis is usually served neat or blended with water. Here, Hoard combines the anise-flavored spirit with three common mixers: vermouth, orange juice and lime juice. Slideshow: French Picnic Recipes

  • In a cocktail shaker, combine the vermouth, pastis and citrus juices. Fill the shaker with ice cubes and shake well. Strain into a chilled rocks glass and top with crushed ice.
