Irish Buck Cocktail


Light yet oaky, Irish whiskey joins tart lemon juice, honey, and spicy ginger beer in this refreshing, fizzy, basil-scented Irish Buck cocktail.

  • 3 tablespoons (1 1/2 ounce) Irish whiskey (preferably Tullamore D.E.W.)

  • 1 tablespoon (1/2 ounce) fresh lemon juice (from 1 lemon)

  • 1 tablespoon (1/2 ounce) Honey Syrup (see Note)

  • ¼ cup cup (2 ounces) ginger beer

  • Basil sprig


  1. Place whiskey, lemon juice, and Honey Syrup in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Place lid on shaker; shake vigorously, and strain into a tall glass filled with ice. Top with ginger beer, and stir briefly. Garnish with a basil sprig tapped lightly against the hand first to release its essential oils.


Honey Syrup (makes 4 ounces): Stir together 1/4 cup honey and 1/4 cup near-boiling water in a small heatproof bowl or glass until dissolved. Let cool to room temperature before using.
