Inside-Out Grilled Ham-and-Cheese Sandwiches

Wow! This is a wonderfully adaptable recipe, so I was able to make easy substitutions using what I already had on hand. I used sliced sourdough instead of Pullman bread; smoked gouda instead of Swiss; and lemon marmalade instead of apricot preserves. I had microwaved the sliced ham so that it was hot already (a precaution against coronavirus). It still took about twice as long for the contents of this Dagwood sandwich to get all toasted and melty, but so worth it!
