In cocktail terminology, a flip is a sweetened drink made with a spirit, whole egg and spice (typically nutmeg). The Friar Flip from Melissa Hayes gets its spice from chocolaty mole bitters and yellow Chartreuse, a honeyed herbal liqueur made by Carthusian monks since the 1700s. How to Make It


In a cocktail shaker, combine all of the ingredients except ice and the garnish and shake vigorously. Fill the shaker with ice and shake again. Strain into a chilled coupe and garnish with the nutmeg.
