Caffè Salvatore

Averna—the famous citrusy amaro from Sicily created by Salvatore Averna—gives this drink a bit of the bitterness of coffee. Horchata, a steeped drink that Francis Schott cooks up with rice, almonds and sugar, makes the cocktail creamy.  Slideshow: More Cocktails for the Rocks Glass

Ingredients

  • Ice

  • 2 1/2 ounces Averna amaro

  • 1/2 ounce vodka

  • 2 ounces chilled horchata (see Note)

Directions

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the amaro, vodka and horchata and shake well. Strain the drink into a chilled, ice-filled rocks glass.

Notes

Horchata is sold at Latin markets, natural-food stores and some supermarkets.
