Watch How Video Game Eating Is Different From Real-Life Eating
Eating in real life is fundamentally different than in video games. Mario didn’t slice up his mushrooms, lightly sauté them and add them to a pasta sauce. Instead, you use the controller to plow headfirst into the mushrooms, and then you just sort of absorb them.
The PBS Web series "Game/Show" decided to look into this phenomenon in more depth. Through a vast array of examples—so many that I, a non-gamer, found myself wondering what system some of these games came out on—"Game/Show" points out few games have really captured the emotional side of eating. Wouldn’t it be great to see how Pac-Man felt about eating all those white dots? It’s something for game makers to consider in the future.
