Food & Wine's Editorial Guidelines Published on January 19, 2022 Share Tweet Pin Email Every year, Tripadvisor announces the top destinations in the world, based on user reviews and ratings. According to their data, 71 percent of Americans said that they're likely to travel for leisure in 2022, and there's one spot that food lovers will continue to flock to: Rome. The Eternal City was named the top destination for food lovers, and reasonably so: it's the home of cacio e pepe, amatriciana, and perfectly fried artichokes. Nationally, New York City took the top spot for food destinations. Outside of the food, Mallorca, Spain, was named the most popular of all trending destinations. Andrea Wyner "Rome wasn't built in a day, and you'll need much more than a day to take in this timeless city," shared Tripadvisor. "The city is a real-life collage of piazzas, open-air markets, and astonishing historic sites. Toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain, contemplate the Colosseum and the Pantheon, and sample a perfect espresso or gelato before spending an afternoon shopping at the Campo de'Fiori or Via Veneto." Here are the top ten food destinations, according to Tripadvisor: Rome, ItalyLondon, UKParis, FranceDubai, UAEBarcelona, SpainMadrid, SpainSao Paulo, BrazilNew York, USABangkok, ThailandSingapore, Singapore As a longtime Rome lover with family in the area, I can attest to its culinary supremacy. For a perfect day of eating, head to Roscioli, a salumeria and kitchen with meticulous sourcing from small producers around Italy, and order... everything. For something fancy (with a breathtaking view), you can't miss La Pergola, the three Michelin-star restaurant atop Rome Cavalieri, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Of course, what is Rome without aperitivo? Neighborhood spots are your best bet, so explore the local haunts wherever you're staying. If you're still feeling fancy, the upscale Hassler Bar, a stone's throw from the Spanish steps, has my favorite negroni in the city. Was this page helpful? Thanks for your feedback! Tell us why!
