The penultimate episode of the season takes the final three to Aspen.
Tonight, the cheftestants face their last Quickfire and elimination challenges before the finale meal. The Colorado season of Top Chef continues as the chefs depart from Telluride for the mountains of Aspen and another daunting challenge.
In their new environment, the chefs must acclimate to more than just the altitude change in challenges that are all about the place around them. In the Quickfire challenge, a Top Chef Masters winner comes to judge the chefs’ dishes prepared using an ingredient they must hunt (or more accurately, catch) themselves. While some chefs get a speedy start to their challenge, others have a hard time wrangling their protein. Dramatically different dishes impress the guest judge and only hint at what’s to come.
In the elimination challenge, the chefs face another kind of obstacle in almost diametric opposition to the Quickfire. Working with some high-quality ingredients, the chefs must make the dish of their lives to propel them to the finale. The demands of the challenge are extreme, so Padma brings by a little help from some very familiar faces.
The new locale serves as the backdrop for the episode but the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen takes center stage for the elimination challenge, as the draw of the Classic brings a slew of recognizable chefs and restaurateurs—to both Top Chef fans and culinary enthusiasts—to the elimination event and the judge’s table.
As the final three, Adrienne, Joe Flamm and Mustache Joe face physical, mental and emotional challenges in the second leg of the finals.
