Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Models on What They Love to Eat
We chatted with Hunter McGrady, Allie Ayers, Robin Holzken, and Paige Spiranac about their favorite snacks and go-to fast food orders.
This time of year, the sports and fashion worlds are abuzz with a special publication from one of Food & Wine's sister publications, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. 2018’s edition features the likes of Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman, SI Swim mainstays Ashley Graham and Kate Upton, as well as this year's cover model, Danielle Herrington who was only a rookie as recently as last year's Swimsuit Issue.
We invited four of the models featured in this year's installment to dish on what they like to eat and cook when they're not posing for photographers on the world's most beautiful beach. Hunter McGrady, Allie Ayers, Robin Holzken, and Paige Spiranac all stopped by the Food & Wine Test Kitchen in New York City, and proved that, as the saying goes, stars are just like us.
Netherlands native Robin Holzken may have a childhood affinity for stamppot, but as a New York City resident, her go-to takeout order is a vegan breakfast burrito from Jajaja on the lower east side or Joe's Pizza. She's also a fan of pie, saying she could probably win a pie-eating contest and would eat it for breakfast, lunch or dinner. As a cook, Holzken says her specialty is whipping up a batch of ratatouille.
Allie Ayers, a newcomer to SI hailing from Snyder, Oklahoma, doubled down on Häagen-Dazs Rum Raisin ice cream, citing that as her go-to Netflix and chill food and the food she could eat at any time of day. She also repped her home state with a shot out fried chicken chain Chicken Express, saying her go-to fast food order is the restaurant's chicken livers with gravy.
Pro golfer Paige Spiranac, a Scottsdale, Arizona resident, admitted her favorite childhood snack wasn't the typical junk food most kids crave. Instead, her parents made protein shakes with banana, tofu, and peanut butter which she says were delicious. She's also a fan of an animal-style, protein-style Double-Double at In-N-Out, so those healthy habits don't have to get in the way of a good burger.
Los Angeles' own Hunter McGrady, naturally, also chooses In-N-Out for her ultimate fast food order. She's also very into Mexican food, saying she and her fiance can often be found ordering tacos or enchiladas for a night in. When it comes to cooking, she says she's mastered roasting a chicken thanks to advice from her mom.
