We have all gotten a rush from a chocolate treat now and then, but the European club scene has taken this to a new level, making cocoa their new late-night drug of choice.

The Daily Mail is reporting that snorting raw cocoa has become a raving trend among Europe’s late night set, even replacing alcohol, cocaine and ecstasy as the ‘drug’ of choice.

This bizarre trend can be seen as a step forward, at least in so far as cocoa is legal and cocaine is not, but what are these club-goers getting out of chocolate that makes them think they are getting high?

Apparently, snorting raw cocoa releases serotonin and endorphins into the brain, and the magnesium in chocolate can relax muscles, which relieves tension. While it may work as a natural high, whether or not it’s actually “safe” remains a contentious topic. But this cocoa rush is becoming so popular that nightclubs are having chocolate nights where you won’t find any alcohol or drugs, just sweet-toothed people getting high on cocoa. And a Belgian chocolatier actually invented a chocolate snorting delivery system, which has currently sold over 25,000 units.

It seems like only a matter of time before this sugar high to find its way to America’s dance floors.
