Potbelly Will Give Away So Many Free Sandwiches This Week
Potbelly Sandwich Shop started as a single beloved location in Chicago when a couple began selling sandwiches out of their antique store back in 1977. In 1996, that original shop was bought out with the vision of bringing Potbelly to the world, eventually expanding to over 450 locations. Though the company had initial success, the Potbelly chain began to stall towards the end of 2016. So recently, the sandwich brand has found itself in rebuilding mode, and for the second year in a row, Potbelly is turning to one of the oldest tricks in the book: free food!
As part of "Potbelly Perks Week," which runs until August 12, the chain will be giving away thousands of freebies—things like sandwiches, shakes, cookies, and chips—with any purchase. To qualify for the add-ons, you also need to be a member of the Potbelly Perks loyalty program, but once you sign up (which you can do at potbelly.com/perks), you immediately become eligible for all of the offers.
According to the company, Perks members will receive a different offer each day, but they will include things like buy one sandwich, get one sandwich free; free chips with any purchase; free shake with any purchase; and free cookie with any purchase—the actual dates of these offers are still to be determined.
Potbelly first debuted its Perks Week last August in honor of National Sandwich Month, according to QSR Magazine, though if you look back at last year’s deals, the chain definitely appears to be stepping up the free stuff for 2018. New CEO Alan Johnson, who took over the helms of the brand in December, was brought in specifically to strengthen the chain’s flagging business, though in a recent Wall Street Journal piece, instead of perks, he said the plan was primarily to refocus on the uniqueness of the company’s sandwiches.
