National Ice Cream Day 2020: Where to Find Deals and Freebies

Ice cream is a classic summer treat, and this upcoming Sunday, July 19, just so happens to be National Ice Cream Day, when several brands offer deals, from buy-one, get-one offers to coupons.

Although the coronavirus pandemic has forced scoop shops and chains all over the country to pivot, with some closing and others operating through takeout and delivery, several companies are still offering deals this year. We’ve listed all of the deals we’ve found so far below, but be sure to check out your local shops, too, so you can help support them (and eat lots and lots of ice cream.)

Baskin-Robbins

On National Ice Cream Day specifically, you can get a free scoop of ice cream with any DoorDash order of $15 or more using the code “BASKINSCOOP,” valid at participating locations. Baskin-Robbins is also offering a $0 delivery fee for orders of $15 or more through DoorDash during National Ice Cream Month (aka July).

Carvel

Carvel has a new flavor, Vanilla Bourbon Toffee, and it’s celebrating on National Ice Cream Day by offering $1 off any size soft-serve cup or cone.

Coconut Bliss

The plant-based ice cream company has a few promotions going on. Customers can get 15 percent off their order total (four items minimum) on the website using the code “BLISSDAY15” through July 20. On Instagram, there will also be a giveaway for the chance to win a year’s worth of ice cream. Finally, Coconut Bliss will be on sale at stores including Sprouts Markets (nationwide), as well as Pacific Northwest Fred Meyer locations and Whole Foods locations in the Pacific Northwest and California.

Coolhaus

L.A.-based Coolhaus will be giving away 20,000 “One Free Item Coupons,” which can be redeemed at Publix grocery stores. They can be downloaded on July 18 and July 19 and are first-come, first-serve.

Cumberland Farms

Text SCOOPS to 64827 on National Ice Cream Day in order to receive $1 off any of Cumberland Farms’ “Ultimate Scoop” ice cream pints (it’s normally $5.49 per pint, so $4.49 with the deal.) You can redeem the offer through July 21.

Dairy Queen

You can get $1 off dipped cones at Dairy Queen on Sunday, July 19. The deal applies to any size, excluding kid cones, and can be redeemed through the mobile app at participating locations.

DoorDash

In addition to the Baskin-Robbins deal, DoorDash will also offer $5 off ice cream or frozen dessert orders of $15 or more from several stores, including CVS, Circle K, 7-Eleven, Walgreens, Wawa, and more. The deal is active from July 17 through July 19, and you’ll need the code “ICECREAM5OFF.”

The Fresh Market

Coolhaus pints will be “on special” at the Fresh Market on National Ice Cream Day, and you can get two pints for $8. Select Graeter’s Ice Cream varieties will also be on special for $4.99.

Friendly’s

On July 18, Friendly’s 85th birthday, and July 19, Friendly’s BFF club members (the chain’s loyalty program) can get an ice cream cone for $0.85.

Godiva

Reopened Godiva boutique and cafe locations will offer a buy-one, get-one 50 percent off deal on soft serve and sundaes. You can order online for curbside pickup or delivery.

Häagen-Dazs

Häagen-Dazs is launching a “Fantasy Flavor Scoop Off” flavor idea contest on Instagram on July 19. To enter, follow Häagen-Dazs on Instagram, share your flavor idea in a comment that starts with “my contest entry:” and tag a friend—eight ideas will be selected to compete in the “Fantasy Flavor Scoop Off bracket.” The winner will ultimately receive 15 handmade cartons of the winning flavor, 24 coupons for a year’s worth of ice cream, and Häagen-Dazs items like ice cream scoops. The contest announcement post, as well as a link to the rules, will be added to Häagen-Dazs' account on July 19.

Insomnia Cookies

On July 19, Insomnia Cookies is offering a BOGO deal on its new “Monster’wich,” which comprises of an ice cream flavor of your choice mixed with a cookie of your choice, served between two more cookies to create an ice cream sandwich. Cookiewiches are also BOGO all week, available for delivery or in-store pickup.

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams

To celebrate its new State Fair Collection, starting on July 17, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams will be posting “Midway-inspired carnival games” on the account @jenisstatefair, with prizes, too. Among them? On Sunday, you'll have the chance to win a year’s worth of ice cream for you and a friend.

Malai

The Brooklyn-based company is offering the chance to win “Topping Treat Boxes,” which include a Malai apron, pink sprinkles, peanut chikki topping, cardamom cocoa nib shortbread topping, and six mini orange cardamom cake bites, per its Instagram account. To enter (you have until end of day Sunday), DM the account with a photo of your receipt either from the Brooklyn scoop shop, or from a Malai Goldbelly order, for purchases between July 14 and July 19. Two winners will be chosen.

Pressed Juicery

Pressed Juicery’s National Ice Cream Day deal offers 50 percent off on “Freeze” (plant-based soft-serve) and “Frozen mini cups” (plant-based frozen desserts) on July 19.

Ripple Foods

All month long, you can get a buy-one, get-one 50 percent off deal on Ripple’s vegan ice creams—the four-pack and the six-packs—through online orders on its website.

Sensodyne

If you’re based in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, or Philadelphia, head over to Sensodyne’s Twitter account on Sunday, where the brand will be having a free ice giveaway.At 12 p.m. ET, those who tweet the hashtags #SensodyneSundae and #giveaway along with the ice cream emoji, will receive a same-day delivery including a pint of ice cream, a bowl, sundae toppings, and Sensodyne® Rapid Relief toothpaste. (It all arrives in a cooler bag.) The promotion will run while supplies last.

So Delicious Dairy Free

As part of their “Every Day is Sundae” campaign, So Delicious Dairy Free is partnering with several food personalities, including Dominique Ansel, who will be sharing sundae recipes featuring So Delicious pints on Instagram between July 12 and July 19. On July 19, So Delicious will share all of those recipes on its own Instagram page—if you comment which sundae is your favorite and tag who you want to share it with, you could win a free “personalized frozen dessert pint,” and your friend will get one, too. 50 winners will be chosen at random, and So Delicious will send the pints.
