'Harry Potter' Fans Will Love the Napa Valley Wine Train's New Murder Mystery Experience

Witch hats and wizard robes are encouraged.

After celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2019, the Napa Valley Wine Train is back with a packed schedule. There’s the usual winery tours and themed experiences, like the Valentine's Day Sweetheart Special, which includes the train ride, a multi-course meal, and a glass of sparkling wine. But this year, the company is also increasing the number of murder mysteries hosted with The Murder Mystery Company, according to Travel + Leisure—and one of them sounds perfect for Harry Potter fans.

UNITED STATES - DECEMBER 30: The Napa County wine train offers lunch and wine tasting aboard vintage coaches, and stops for one or two winery tours, during a three-hour ride between its base in Napa and the town of St. Helena, up the Napa Valley (Photo by Carol M. The “Witches and Wizards” theme will take place on Saturday, October 24, and guests are encouraged to wear witch hats and wizard robes. (If you have a wand, you might as well bring that too.) Like the rest of the murder mystery experiences on the train, it includes a ride on the train, “murder mystery dinner theatre,” and a multi-course gourmet meal, which is prepared by executive chef Donald Young. It's not clear if there will be any theme-specific food and drink available, but the listed menu includes Sonoma Mixed Greens, Sliced Tenderloin of Beef, Lemon-Thyme Roasted Chicken, Citrus & Black Pepper Cured Pork Tenderloin, the Catch of The Day, Coconut & Almond Milk Braised Chickpeas, and Gemelli Pasta, along with a daily creation from the pastry chef for dessert.

As for wine? The menu has plenty available for purchase, according to T+L—not to mention, the train’s wine store (located at the station in Downtown Napa) is stocked with all-California bottles, 80 percent from Napa Valley and 20 percent from other regions in the state.

In addition to Witches and Wizards, there are several other fun themes on the schedule, including “Midnight at the Masquerade” on February 25, a “Totally ‘80s Totally Murder” on July 16, “Death of a Gangster" on multiple dates, and "The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year" on Christmas. Those interested in booking can head to the Napa Valley Wine Train’s official website. Check-in for murder mysteries starts at 5:30 pm, and the train departs at 6:20 before returning at 8:30 pm.
