Mtn Dew Baja Blast Is Returning to Stores This Summer with Three New Flavors and an Energy Drink

Usually sold exclusively at Taco Bell, Baja Blast will once again be available in bottles for summer 2022.

This summer is guaranteed to be a "blast" — at least for Mtn Dew fans. The soda brand is once again bringing one of its biggest cult-favorite flavors, Baja Blast, to store shelves and significantly expanding its scope in the process.

Mtn Dew Baja Blast famously launched as a Taco Bell exclusive flavor in 2004 (back when the Mtn was still a "Mountain") and has since inspired decades of chain-exclusive Mtn Dew flavors, including two this year alone: Mtn Dew Legend at Buffalo Wild Wings and Mtn Dew Purple Thunder at Circle K. But Baja Blast has continued to remain popular over the years and has gone on to receive semi-regular summertime releases at retail shops since 2014.

For summer 2022, that means both Baja Blast and Baja Blast Zero Sugar are returning to store shelves nationwide for a limited time, along with a couple new iterations: Mtn Dew Baja Mango Gem and Mtn Dew Baja Gold. The former is billed as "a colorful orange tropical mango flavor" while the latter is "a bright island pineapple flavor."

Then, for the first time ever, Baja Blast is getting the energy drink treatment with the release of Mtn Dew Energy Baja Blast, described as featuring "all the flavor of the original Baja Blast in addition to the added benefits of citicoline, zinc and caffeine, which provide a jolt of energy and a boost to mental clarity, with zero added sugar."

But Mtn Dew's not done yet. The brand is also launching the Lost Treasures of Baja Island Sweepstakes where customers can use under-cap codes to score, yes, another brand new, limited-run Baja Blast flavor: Baja Blast Deep Dive, described as taking "the classic Baja flavor to new depths, wrapped in a sleek black can."

Funnily enough, entering a single under-cap code is all it takes for the chance to win daily prizes of up to $1,000, but if you want to score one of the just 19,000 cases of Deep Dive, well, for that, you need to enter under-cap codes from all three of this year's Baja Blast flavors.

"Dew Nation loves Baja Blast, and we believe fans will be happy to have it back at retail. But we also wanted to surprise everyone, which sometimes can be hard to do," Pat O'Toole, Mtn Dew's CMO, stated. "An unreleased Baja flavor to kick off the summer? I think that's a surprise Dew Nation will be ready for and will want to get their hands on. I hope they'll enjoy Baja Deep Dive as much as we enjoyed creating it."

For the record, earlier this year, Mtn Dew announced that Baja Blast would be included as one of their 5 percent ABV Hard Mtn Dew flavors, meaning Baja Blast has now pretty much covered the entire Mtn Dew spectrum. Plus, as the brand points out, Mtn Dew Baja Blast is still available as a fountain drink at Taco Bell all year long.

"Baja Blast is the ultimate summer vibe, and we wanted this year's celebration to be bigger than ever," stated Fabiola Torres, PepsiCo energy GM and CMO. "There is a Baja Blast for everyone, and I think fans should try them all — the only challenge will be choosing a favorite!"
