Over the last, oh, millennium or so, monks have developed a reputation for brewing some of the world’s best beer. But some abbeys eschew the booze for less alcoholic creations. And the producers over at the Great Big Story YouTube channel found one such abbey in Arkansas of all places producing what must be some of the world’s most tranquil hot sauce. The Subiaco Abbey is a 140-year-old monastery in Subiaco, Arkansas, which, in addition to its habanero monk sauce, also produces candy and has a working farm. The hot sauce doesn’t mess around either—according to the monks it comes in at 250,000 Scoville units—about half of some commercial grade pepper sprays. On second thought, maybe it’s not so tranquil after all.
