News McDonald's Turned Its Crispy Chicken Sandwiches into Rugs That You Can Actually Buy The chain teamed with TikTok tufting artist @happyrugs to design a limited-edition collection. By Adam Campbell-Schmitt Published on April 4, 2022 Share Tweet Pin Email Photo: Courtesy of McDonald's Thanks to social media, we've seen an explosion in some hyper-specific crafts and hobbies going viral, whether it be making tiny food, painting bagels, or cutting into lifelike objects that are actually cake. And if you've been paying attention to your feed recently, you might have seen another oddly satisfying trend take off: making bespoke rugs. One such artist is Madeline Ronzoni, aka @happyrugs, who makes rugs shaped like everything from boba tea to basketball shoes on her TikTok account with over 600,000 followers. The skilled process is relatively straightforward, assuming you have a tufting gun—use different colored yarns to fill in blocks of color, then give the whole thing a quick shave with some hair clippers to reveal a plush picture. But for Ronzoni's latest design, the artist has teamed with an unlikely partner, McDonald's. The result is a trio of rugs inspired by McDonald's Crispy Chicken Sandwich, Spicy Crispy Chicken Sandwich (add Spicy Pepper Sauce), and Spicy Deluxe Crispy Chicken Sandwich (add Spicy Pepper Sauce, lettuce, and tomato). The Crispy Chicken Sandwich collection—which was likely a response to both the popularity of Chick-fil-A and sensational debut of Popeye's The Sandwich—was tested as far back as 2019 and hit menus nationwide in early 2021. Every week's selection of rugs will be available on goldenarchesunlimited.com at 1. p.m. ET while supplies last. Each rug retails for $65. (McDonald's says that while the rugs pictured were designed by Ronzoni, the actual for-sale rugs may vary. McDonald's also advises that buyers will have to wait about four months for their run to arrive.) And in a more daring artistic, the brand also duct-taped a chicken sandwich to the wall at Miami's Art Basel and slapped a $120,003.99 price tag on in a nod to that infamous banana.
