With the acceleration of global superpowers' potential realignment, geopolitical jockeying could reach new heights in 2018—but starting today, at least one key form of power has been put firmly in the people's hands. For the first time ever, Krispy Kreme is letting Americans choose which of four trailblazing new glazed doughnut flavors will be brought to life.

From tomorrow through January 22, you can fulfill some of your civic duty by heading to voteforglaze.com and cast your ballot for your pick of four glazed doughnut flavor candidates: blueberry, caramel, maple or lemon. In an era of unprecedented media saturation, it's easy to get sidetracked by slick, glazed exterior of style, so make sure to do your research and truly consider the substance of each option here, because the stakes are about as high as it gets for online doughnut chain poll.

Which is to say, the Krispy Kreme's "world-class culinary innovators will then craft, taste and perfect the winning Glazed Doughnut flavor," and offer the new flavor for a week at participating stores across the U.S. this coming spring. Although good citizens should be aware: unlike in most representative democracies, this vote will allow you to place one vote every day until the polling is complete, which you can share on social media with #VoteForGlaze and tagging @KrispyKreme.

“In 2017, our fans responded with tremendous enthusiasm regarding how we innovated around our Original Glazed Doughnut," said a Krispy Kreme rep in a statement; "we turned it green for St. Patrick’s Day. We eclipsed it with mouth-watering chocolate glaze for the total solar eclipse. And we sweetened it with warm gingerbread molasses to create a new holiday." With so much of the toroidal treat's changes coming from the top-down, though, it's good to see a more bottom-up, grassroots-leaning initiative, whose victor will be announced on January 25.
