Krispy Kreme Adds Nationwide Delivery

Plus, families of Leap Day babies can score free doughnuts at the hospital.

Someone who has more math skills than we do has calculated the odds of being born on February 29th as 1 in 1,461, and the babies who do arrive on that particular day are known as "leapers" or "leaplings."

This year, any new mom or dad who tells Krispy Kreme about their just-born leapling can get five dozen free doughnuts delivered straight to the hospital. That's right: on Saturday, February 29, Krispy Kreme will take five boxes of celebratory doughnuts to any medical center that's within 10 miles of one of its stores.

The only catch is that someone—a parent, family member, doctor, nurse, or maternity ward staff member—has to tag Krispy Kreme on Twitter or Instagram and use the hashtag #KrispyKremeSpecialDelivery. (Well, the biggest catch is that someone has to have a baby on Saturday too.)

“Krispy Kreme doughnut delivery is pretty sweet, and so are Leap Day babies," Dave Skena, Krispy Kreme's Chief Marketing Officer, said in a statement. "Using 2020’s extra day to make the leap to national delivery, while celebrating Leap Day babies, will be a fun moment for our brand and fans."

Those of us who aren't in our third trimester can still get Krispy Kreme doughnuts delivered, starting on Saturday. If you place an order through the Krispy Kreme app or website, and you live within 10 miles of one of the 350 Krispy Kreme stores scattered throughout the United States, then your hot, fresh doughnuts can be delivered straight to your door. (Although you will have to get off the couch to collect them from the DoorDash driver.)

"We are adamant about our doughnuts being fresh, which is one of the reasons we haven't done this before we were sure we had a third-party partner that could help us ensure that every one of those doughnuts was delivered fresh and always fresh right from the store after it was made," Skena told USA Today.

Last week, the North Carolina-based chain announced its latest limited-edition doughnuts, which are the result of its first-ever partnership with Butterfinger.

The two new "krispety, crunchety, peanut buttery" doughnuts include an Original Glazed doughnut filled with peanut butter creme, drizzled with Butterfinger icing and topped with Butterfinger pieces, and a chocolate fudge cake doughnut that has been dipped in chocolate icing, and is topped with peanut butter chocolate creme and Butterfinger pieces. Both Butterfinger doughnuts will be available at participating Krispy Kreme stores until March 13.

Let us be the first ones to say congratulations to all of the soon-to-be parents, and to wish a happy birthday to all of those little leaplings. We'll raise a just-delivered doughnut in your honor.
