Guy Fieri Is Hosting a Special 'Takeout' Edition of 'Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives'

Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives is getting a new spin for the coronavirus era. The Walk of Fame-recognized celebrity chef (who also kills it on Instagram) is remotely filming three special episodes called Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives: Takeout.

Far from a gimmick, each episode of DDD: Takeout will be a chance to look at how four chefs that have previously appeared on the Food Network show are attempting to get through the current COVID-19 crisis. And episodes will still feature their usual cooking component—though it will take place via a video chat. Chefs will be sending ingredient lists to Fieri who will then be walked through the recipe via teleconference in the isolation of his own home kitchen. Dishes are said to include chicken tamales, paella fritters, European-style dumplings, BBQ burnt ends, chicken parmesan, and bangin' shrimp.

"Triple D has always been about hitting the road and celebrating the hard working folks of the restaurant business. And while the restaurants are partially closed and the Camaro is parked, DDD: Takeout is here to show you how your favorite chefs are still cookin' it up to keep people fed, support their communities, their families, and their employees," Fieri said in announcing the new episodes.

And though Fieri's high-octane image—from his bleached hair to his wild wardrobe—may inspire semi-ironic idolization, beneath it all, this Guy has repeatedly proven his heart is even bigger than his stomach—whether he's rushing to feed local residents when disaster strikes or, more recently, working with the National Restaurant Association on a coronavirus relief fund. By extension, using his TV platform to highlight some of the chefs struggling during this crisis seems like a natural extension of that generosity.

The new "Takeout" episodes of Diner, Drive-Ins and Dives are scheduled to debut on the Food Network starting on Friday, April 24 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. In the meantime, if you need your Fieri fix sooner, the Food Network is also airing a DDD: A to Z marathon this Saturday, April 18th at 1 p.m.
