There Are Ghost Pepper Chocolate Strawberries Now in Case You Hate Your Valentine

Edible Arrangements will spice up your love life.

“Spicing up” your love life is a well-worn expression. But this Valentine’s Day, Edible Arrangements—yes, the people who make bouquets you can eat—have introduced a new item that is about as literally spicy as you can get: chocolate-dipped strawberries spiked with ghost pepper flakes.

Apparently, someone at Edible Arrangements has been looking to move up the corporate ladder with fresh ideas. Back in November, the brand made headlines by announcing plans to earn the “edible” part of its name with a line of CBD-enhanced Incredible Edibles treats. Now, the Atlanta-based brand with over 1,000 locations around the world is once again trend-chasing (albeit maybe a few years behind the curve) by turning to one of the world’s hottest peppers. (The ghost pepper held the Guinness World Record for hottest pepper from 2007 until 2011.)

The new limited-edition “Love on Fire” box features “six, semisweet chocolate-dipped strawberries sprinkled with ghost pepper flakes,” according to the brand. “Ghost peppers are over 100 times hotter than a jalapeño and trigger your brain to release endorphins and dopamine. Combined, these chemicals create a euphoria similar to falling in love.” The fiery new item will be available starting February 10 at select stores and will sell for $19.99 while supplies last.

“With Valentine’s Day being one of our most popular holidays, we wanted to kick it up a notch this year,” Scott Wakeman, the company’s executive VP of marketing, said in the announcement. “We’re excited to bring together the spiciness of the ghost pepper alongside the sweetness of our fresh fruit to create a unique twist and give our customers a truly hot gift this Valentine’s Day.”

Of course, some Americans prefer a more conservative approach to relationships, and ghost pepper-level spiciness is probably more than they need. In that case, Edible Arrangements also has a less intense option: The “Burning Love Bouquet”—which features “semisweet-dipped strawberries topped with spicy chipotle chili flakes alongside pineapple hearts and plump, juicy grapes.”
