Ed Sheeran Will Open His Own Bar, Restaurant, and Music Venue in London
Ed Sheeran became one of the most successful musicians in the world in an era where it seemed like the guitar-strumming singer-songwriter was all but dead. Now, for his next trick, he’s reportedly going to try to find success in another difficult trade…running a bar, restaurant, and live music venue.
Sheeran and his manager Stuart Camp are hoping to open the new venue in London as soon as next month, according to the British tabloid The Sun. The paper reports that the duo purchased the Spanish diner Galicia, located in the neighborhood of West London near Sheeran’s home, last year, and are currently in the process of overhauling the nearly $2 million space, including adding the ability to host live music. “Builders are hard at work making over the venue so it will be ready by the end of April,” an unnamed source told The Sun. “The name is up in the air, as locals liked Galicia, but Ed is keen to put his own stamp on it.” Apparently, he’s even considered naming the remodeled spot after his song “Castle on the Hill.”
As The Drinks Business points out, Sheeran himself has yet to confirm the venue, but if The Sun is to be believed, that may be part of the plan. “The idea is to have an understated opening with an edgy crowd,” the tabloid’s source continued. “Ed wants it to be his local and doesn’t want to be inundated with selfie-hunters and fans.”
Owning his own bar would certainly be in line with Sheeran’s personality. In a 2017 piece with Rolling Stone, the singer explained, “Often, I’m like, ‘Is it bad that I drink almost every single day?’ And then I look at my friends and most of them do the same. And they’re actually worse than me. The first thing Americans say is, ‘There’s a problem, and you need to go to rehab.’ But I don’t wake up and drink. I don’t depend on drink. I can go without it completely. I just enjoy going out and having fun, being 25. And I think that’s a normal thing.”
If you’re drinking every day, you might as well be buying those beers from yourself, right? That’s just good business.
