Dunkin' Adds an Adorable Dog Costume and a Peanut Butter Cup Macchiato for Halloween
Halloween is a peak promotional opportunity for brands: sweet treats, costumes, people wandering door-to-door looking for freebies. It all adds up to plenty of fun advertising angles — and plenty of companies take advantage of lots of them. For instance, this year, Dunkin' has Halloween-themed food and drinks, its own Dunkin'-themed costumes, and even a "virtual door" customers can visit. But what may be their best Halloween offering isn't for you… it's for your dog.
The donut chain's new Dunkin' Pet Costume — a collaboration with the costume specialists at Spirit Halloween — is as sure to garner giggling "aws" from friends as much as it is sure to embarrass the hell out of your pooch. Intended to make man's best friend look like a Dunkin' team member, the small costume features a "Take life one cup at a time" t-shirt, a Dunkin' visor, and a built-in box of Munchkins that gives the appearance that your dog has brought home some goodies for the family (as opposed to his usual soggy tennis ball or dead bird). This crazy animal outfit seems like a steal at just $24.99.
For those not looking to torture a pet, Dunkin' and Spirit also has costumes for the entire family. Not only are they bringing back last year's sold-out Adult Dunkin' Hot Coffee and Adult Strawberry Frosted Donut costumes, but they're also adding two new costumes: an Adult Dunkin' Cold Brew Costume and a Child Munchkins Donut Hole Treat Box Costume. Dunkin' says these items are available either online or in Spirit Halloween stores nationwide while supplies last for $39.99 each.
"After a successful collaboration last Halloween, we wanted to go big and bold with our Dunkin' costume lineup this year and are excited to unveil two new ways for Dunkin' fans and families to get their fix," Kym Sarkos, executive vice president at Spirit Halloween, said of the collab.
Meanwhile, if you just want to get your Dunkin' fix the old-fashioned way — by going to Dunkin' and buying a donut or a drink — the chain has some special Halloween menu items, as well. They've brought back their Spider Donut, and they've also unleashed a new drink: the Peanut Butter Cup Macchiato — blending the flavors of a peanut butter cup into an espresso base.
And finally, if you want to do some virtual trick-or-treating, from now until Halloween, Dunkin' is also encouraging people to go to DunkinDoor.com, where you can use augmented reality to ring a virtual bell on a virtual door for the chance to win instant prizes including as much as $1,000. I didn't win anything, but the trick is on me: You can't egg a virtual door.
