You'll need a tall, sturdy, container, and a bag of plain white rice. Yes, that's it!

Chapple goes with a nice ceramic one, but just about any material you'd like will probably work, so long as it's not flimsy. Next, pour the rice in, nearly to the top.

Believe it or not, you can now step back and admire your work, because you have just assembled a highly versatile new knife block! Take your knives, and stick them right into the DIY knife storage solution, and go towel off after a construction job well-done. As Chapple demonstrates, unlike a traditional knife block, this will store just about any knife you've got, and you can even use it for kitchen shears or other, longer and/or sharp objects that need storing.
