A Cozy Chocolate Orange-Themed Hotel Room Awaits You in the French Alps
I don't remember exactly what year those foil-wrapped, citrus-flavored chocolate oranges first hit my Christmas stocking. I do remember, viscerally, that you had to smack them on the table to break apart the segments and then attempt to refrain from eating the whole thing in one sitting. While my fuzzy memory seems to recall Tobler oranges became prevalent in America in the 1990s, they've certainly existed longer than that, especially in Britain where the yuletide treat was invented by confectionary company Terry's in 1932. (Tobler, in fact, was the brand that imported Terry's for the North America market.) Imitators from Ferrara and even Trader Joe's have since popped up, and thus the chocolate orange tradition continues in my house (and many others) every December.
So if Christmas to you is associated with the taste of chocolate oranges, a ski resort in France is hosting your ultimate winter getaway this holiday season: A chocolate orange-themed suite.
Club Med's new resort at La Rosière in Montvalezan, France, will debut what the company claims is a first-of-its-kind experience for guests to immerse themselves in all things chocolate orange this Christmas.
"Chocolate lovers can indulge in the new experience which sees them immersed in an orange chocolate paradise as they take a ski holiday in the French Alps," the resort's announcement states. "Guests can relax on the chocolate orange printed bedding overlooked by the custom segment headboard as they indulge in a chocolate orange cocktail (or hot chocolate for the little ones). Each guest will receive their own personalized stocking filled with chocolatey treats making them feel like they’re waking up on Christmas day, every day of their stay."
In addition to chocolate orange drinks and dishes on the room service menu, here are some other chocolate orange amenities guests can expect to find:
- A real Christmas tree adorned with chocolate orange baubles for a secret midnight snack.
- Chocolate orange splayed headboard to encourage delicious dreams.
- Custom chocolate orange skis to shred on the slopes in style.
- Chocolate orange scented toilet roll. (Yes, even the T.P. is festive.)
Rates for the chocolate orange room start at $237 per person, per night. Find more information on the Club Med website.
