As of today, the stars of HGTV's Fixer Upper are fixing up breakfast at Magnolia Table.
Waco may have lost its historic Elite Cafe when it closed in early 2016, but as of today, the Texas city could start seeing some net Gaines. You read right: After purchasing the space used by the local favorite that same year, Fixer Upper stars Chip and Joanna Gaines are officially opening the fixed-up spot on Monday, February 26 under its new guise, Magnolia Table.
Chip says he's always been "a breakfast connoisseur," so naturally Magnolia Table is heavily breakfast-focused, with the breakfast menu featuring, among other things, French Toast with Strawberry Butter, Avocado Toast, Housemade Tater Tots, plenty of egg options and Jo's Buttermilk Biscuits offered both with sausage gravy. Plus, some vegetables and other ingredients come straight from Joanna's own garden.
As nice as it may look now, the restaurant, which is currently open for breakfast and lunch from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., really was a fixer upper at first. Chip told Southern Living that since the restaurant is "literally one big giant kitchen," it was initially filled with all the dirt, dinge and the kind of musk you might expect from the food preparation area of a restaurant that had previously gone out of business.
But with that classic Gaines elbow grease, the team brought the space back to life and is honoring it with some "Brunch & Lunch" options inspired by the original Elite Café menu like the 1919 Pimento Cheese Sandwich. Other dishes on that section of the menu include Chip's Ham Sandwich, which features ham, cheddar and two scrambled eggs on a croissant, House Tomato Basil Soup, and the Gaines Brothers Burger, with 44 Farms grass-fed beef, melted Havarti, arugula, and a choice of bacon onion jam or jalapeno drip jam.
Located at 2132 South Valley Mills Drive, the 210-seat restaurant doesn't take reservations, but there is an outdoor coffee bar and market-style "Take Away" shop that sells both gifts and select to-go menu items. It's not the couple's first food venture, either: Silos Baking Company, which resides in their Magnolia Market, offers an array of baked good desserts, that, while not all breakfast, seem like good preparation for their newest venture.
