DC Comics has officially proclaimed Sept 17, 2016, as Batman Day. This is the third year of Bat-celebration and fans of all ages can get in on the action by doing all they can to celebrate the world's greatest bon vivant/brooding super hero.

If you love all things Batsy, this dessert may look like chocolate chip ice cream, but looks can be deceiving. A closer peek and you'll see the chocolate chips are actual Batman symbols. Dark, like the night, just like Batman likes it.

You'll need:

  • 1 cup milk chocolate, broken into pieces
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate, melted

Special equipment

  • 1/2-inch Batman symbols printed out
  • Parchment paper
  • Piping bag
  • No. 1 Piping tip

Prep an ice cream maker freezer bowl ahead of time.

To make your own template, print out 1/2-inch Batman symbols, place a piece of parchment on top.

Pour the melted dark chocolate into a piping bag with a #1 tip and trace the symbols in chocolate, onto the parchment. Keep in the refrigerator until ready to use.

Using a double boiler, heat the milk chocolate until it's melted and smooth. Set aside.

In a medium bowl, stir together the heavy cream and milk, whisking in the melted milk chocolate and sugar until dissolved, then stir in the vanilla.

Cover and refrigerate for 15-20 minutes.

Stir again to make sure the ingredients are combined then pour the cold mixture into the prepped freezer bowl and freeze in an ice cream maker according to manufacturer's directions.

In the last five minutes stir in half of the chocolate Batman symbols. When done, transfer to an airtight container and keep in the freezer.

When ready, sprinkle in the rest of the Batman symbols to serve.
