If you’ve been slicing your bagels in half all these years, prepare to have your world completely reoriented. Engineering professor and self-identified mathematical sculptor George Hart has created a “mathematically correct breakfast” by turning his bagel into an edible Möbius strip. His step-by-step instructions are in the video above. This may not be as useful a trick as the most efficient way to cut a cake, but it is guaranteed to generate a lot of oohs and aahs the next time you have people over for brunch.

Hart likes his intricate slicing method because it results in a bit more surface area on which to spread your cream cheese. And let’s face it, for a lot of people, the bagel is nothing but a vehicle for cream cheese consumption.

There are some drawbacks to this method—namely that you can’t stuff it into a normal pop-up toaster. You also probably can’t add lox unless you want to clean cured fish off the floor. But of all the ways we’ve seen people playing with food, this is the only one we’d keep on our shelf.
