An Aperol Spritz Festival in London Will Feature Boating on a Booze Canal
There are few cocktails that cut the summer heat as refreshingly as an Aperol Spritz. A little bitter, a little sweet, a little bubbly, the blend of the floral orange and rhubarb apéritif Aperol and prosecco is, of course, the mainstay of every trattoria's al fresco beverage menu. But if you're looking to dive into spritz season as completely as possible, you won't need a ticket all the way to Italy to revel in an entire festival dedicated to the drink as the Aperol Big Spritz Social hits the U.K. later this month.
From May 31 to June 9, London's hip Shoreditch neighborhood will be home to a playground of Aperol-themed experiences. Located in the Electric Light Station, the pop-up Aperol fest will host the U.K.'s longest spritz bar which will serve up the "expertly crafted" beverages, according to the event's website. There's also going to be an Aperol Orange canal, which will feature little boats you can navigate down the boozy waterway, along with a pergola to lounge under and a slide to, you know, slide down (maybe have someone hold your drink for that).
A £10 ($14) admission ticket entitles you to two Aperol spritzes, and (if you're there to party) additional spritzes are £6 ($8) each. But since any summer drink is best shared with a friend, the festival is selling pairs of tickets for £18 ($24) and four tickets for £34 ($46) to encourage communal cocktailing.
The Big Spritz Social runs from Thursday, May 31 to Saturday, June 1 and opens again from Wednesday, June 6 through Saturday, June 9 (sorry, Sunday evening spritz fans). Weeknight hours are from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday hours are from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Buy tickets and find more information on the event website.
