After canceling last year's giveaway, 7-Eleven wants everyone to grab their free Slurpee this summer while staying safe.

Celebrated annually on 7-Eleven's birthday, Free Slurpee Day (officially known as 7-Eleven Day) is one of the most exciting days of the year-second only to 7-Eleven's Bring Your Own Cup Day where the chain will let you fill pretty much any container with the Slurpee of your choice. (Admittedly, all of this assumes you love Slurpees.) But last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Free Slurpee Day-which typically falls on July 11-was cancelled. "Gathering nine million of our closest friends in stores on one day just didn't feel right," Marissa Jarratt, the company's senior vice president and chief marketing officer, lamented at the time.

Now, with America returning to normality, you'd think Free Slurpee Day would be back for 2021. But not so fast. Free Slurpee "Day" isn't returning: To make up for missing last year, this July, 7-Eleven is celebrating its 94th birthday with Free Slurpee Month!

Starting on July 1, 7-Eleven will be adding a coupon for one free small Slurpee to all 7Rewards loyalty app members that can be redeemed at any time in the month of July-a chance for everyone "to party on their own time and stay safe," according to the chain. They also point out that having a full 31 days to select a Slurpee will give customers the chance "to decide whether they should choose a classic flavor or one of this summer's featured flavors: VitaminWater Zero Sugar Gutsy (a.k.a. Watermelon Peach), Pineapple Whip, and Blueberry Lemonade."

That said, a single Slurpee doth not a party make, so 7-Eleven has a few other tricks up their sleeve. All month long, small Slurpees and any grill item (such as Big Bite hot dogs, taquitos, Cheeseburger Bites, Buffalo chicken rollers, and eggrolls) are selling for just $1 each. For 7-Eleven's birthday weekend of July 10 and 11, delivery through the 7-Eleven app will be free. And finally, on the chain's actual birthday (July 11) celebratory birthday cake donuts will be 50 cents for loyalty app members.

Finally, as has been the case in the past, 7-Eleven Day comes with a charity component: The chain will be donating one million meals to Feeding America. "While we're celebrating our birthday month, we are also mindful that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a lasting impact on many families," Jarratt said in this year's announcement. "We know how important it is to come together and help the communities we serve in times of trouble. Our commitment to provide one million meals this year and in 2020, along with our Round Up for Rewards program this winter, bookends an impactful year."
