The New Wood Artisans

Some of America's best young woodworkers are following family tradition. Board & Bread designer Emily Brock, for instance, learned the craft from her father and great-grandfather. Others have fine-arts training, like Amelie Mancini, who also paints in her Brooklyn studio. Whatever their backgrounds, these artisans are all about a DIY sensibility; Jacob May owner Dave Ball even mills his own lumber.—Suzie Myers
