What's worse, I live on an island where creepy bugs like cockroaches and fruit flies flock to my trash can. My roommate and I had a basic lidless garbage can for months before we ordered the Ninestars Motion Sensor Trash Can from Amazon for our kitchen — and it's been a game changer for keeping bugs and odors out of our space. This garbage can is about two feet tall and can hold up to 18.5 gallons of food scraps. It has two separate compartments for organizing the trash from recycling products. Labels on the front of the can make it easy for guests to know where to toss their cans and bottles versus food. My favorite part about this garbage can is the automatic lid that opens with a touchless sensor; all you have to do is wave your hand near the sensor and it will open right up. Once you toss your food in the bin, the lid automatically closes shut. Not only is this super convenient, but the infrared motion sensor lid also keeps odors out of the kitchen — even on nights when we cook salmon. To change the trash bags, simply remove the liner and replace the bag by wrapping the exterior edges around the liner and sliding it back into place. Plus, the motion sensor lid operates with four D batteries (that we haven't had to replace since ordering in October!). Amazon shoppers are also loving the Ninestars Motion Sensor Trash Can, which currently has over 5,000 five-star ratings. They specifically praise how spacious it is, with one sharing: "I was worried it wouldn't hold much and be too small, but I didn't want to have two separate cans for trash and recycling taking up lots of space in my apartment. This holds penty," adding that they only have to change the bags once a week.
