This Might Be the Easiest Way to Make Cold Brew Coffee at Home
All you need is a French press, coffee grounds, and a refrigerator.
Spending more time at home means getting more creative in the kitchen, whether out of boredom, necessity, or a little bit of both—especially when it comes to making food and drinks you’d otherwise leave to the professionals. One thing I’ve been craving since spring weather kicked into full gear is cold brew coffee, which I never would have made at home pre-pandemic. Now, the specialty beverage is a part of my regular morning routine, and it couldn’t be easier to make.
I’ve long been a fan of the French press coffee maker, but lately a hot cup of joe in the morning leaves me overheating in my New York City apartment where the radiator continues to hiss out hot air despite rising temperatures outside. After a quick Google search, I realized that I already had everything I needed to make my own cold brew coffee at home, meaning I could enjoy a caffeine boost in the morning without breaking a sweat.
I simply fill my French press with a few scoops of coarsely ground coffee beans (I typically use two heaping tablespoons) and cold water, putting on the lid without plunging the filter before bed. I pop it in the fridge and let the water and coffee grounds work their magic overnight while I sleep. In the morning, I wake up to deliciously strong cold brew that I can enjoy over ice, with a bit of milk, or as is. Just plunge and pour. It’s a simple method that anyone with a French press can master.
If you don’t already have your own French press, now’s the time to invest. They’re relatively affordable, versatile, and perfect for tiny kitchens that lack the counter space for larger coffee machines. Keep scrolling to shop a few of our favorites below. You’ll be on your way to making barista-level cold brew at home in no time.
